LHUNTSE DZONG

4.7/5

Perched majestically upon a hillside with a commanding view of the Kurichu River, stands the formidable fortress, affectionately known as Lhundub Rinchentse.

Its construction dates back to 1654 when the visionary Trongsa Penlop, Chogyal Minjur Tempa, undertook the monumental task of erecting this fortress. The site itself holds historical significance, as it was chosen to replace an older temple built in 1552 by Nagi Wangchuk. Over the centuries, this fortress has witnessed the ebb and flow of time, embodying the enduring spirit of Bhutanese history.

Today, Lhundub Rinchentse is more than just a fortress; it is the beating heart of both administration and spirituality in the district. The dzong serves as a sanctuary for sacred artifacts, each imbued with the essence of devotion and history. These precious relics were thoughtfully installed by the 4th Druk Desi, Tenzin Rabgay, weaving a tapestry of cultural and spiritual significance.

As you stand within the walls of Lhundub Rinchentse, you are transported back in time, surrounded by the echoes of ancient tales and the sacred energy that permeates every stone. This mighty fortress not only guards the physical boundaries of the district but also safeguards the cultural heritage and religious traditions that have shaped the identity of Bhutan.
