Buddha Point, formally known as the Kuenselphodrang Nature Park, is a significant and revered site in Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. Dominating the skyline, it is home to the majestic Buddha Dordenma, a massive 51-meter-tall statue of Buddha Shakyamuni. Positioned on a hill, Buddha Point offers panoramic views of the Thimphu valley, creating a serene and spiritually charged atmosphere.

The Buddha Dordenma statue, constructed to fulfill an ancient prophecy, stands as a symbol of peace and happiness. The statue is adorned with 125,000 smaller gilded Buddha statues, contributing to the overall spiritual ambiance of the site. The complex includes an expansive altar and a meditation hall, providing a space for contemplation and devotion.

Beyond its religious and cultural significance, Buddha Point also features the Kuenselphodrang Nature Park, established to preserve the natural environment surrounding the monumental Buddha statue. The park offers a peaceful retreat with lush greenery and well-maintained trails, providing opportunities for both bicycling and hiking. Visitors can immerse themselves in the tranquility of the park while enjoying the breathtaking views of the Thimphu valley.

Buddha Point has become not only a religious and cultural landmark but also a popular destination for locals and tourists alike. It serves as a reminder of Bhutan’s commitment to promoting spiritual well-being, environmental conservation, and the pursuit of happiness, aligning with the core values of the country’s unique Gross National Happiness philosophy.
